In a meeting of minds, Black Betty and the Kolisi Foundation have embarked on a unique project that aligns the jeweller’s expertise with the foundation’s intent on upskilling survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV). The Beading Project was created and introduced to The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women & Children. The project works with survivors to enable skills development and financial independence for them long term, a small salary short term, as well as a therapeutic hobby they can enjoy while working through recent traumas.

hello

Each bracelet has been created by the hands of a GBV survivor. The process has ignited a passion for these women and offered moments of creative expression for them. 100% of the proceeds from sales of the beaded bracelets created for this on-going project go back to the women and the Saartjie Baartman Centre, in a continued effort to support this incredible cause.

We believe in purpose driven jewellery that makes a difference

THE SENTIMENT COLLECTION

Six bracelets have been created as a source of empowerment, mindfulness, love, happiness, protection and truth - offering meaningful connection to those who wear them. Each is adorned with a Sterling Silver or 9kt Gold Vermeil bead, wreathed with a range of semi-precious beaded stones that represent the unique qualities and energies we honour as daily reminders to check-in.

BLACK BETTY X THE KOLISI FOUNDATION

As of October 2022 we’ve partnered with the Kolisi Foundation in a creative meeting of minds to bring change in our community and dedicate our focus to supporting women in South Africa with a strong focus on Gender Based Violence (GBV). As a female-owned brand, an inherent part of our ethos is uplifting and empowering women. Sharing a fierce passion for supporting our community of women, the Kolisi Foundation acknowledges the profound and widespread GBV in our country, which disproportionately affects women and girls. Together, we are eager to invite our community to participate in this collaboration of projects enabling support and funding for the women affected by GBV.

REMEMBER THE ONE, ONE BY ONE
THE KOLISI FOUNDATION WAS ESTABLISHED IN APRIL 2020 BY SIYA AND RACHEL KOLISI WITH A DESIRE TO CHANGE THE NARRATIVES OF INEQUALITY IN SOUTH AFRICA.

The Foundation wants thriving communities and focuses on three integrated strategic areas: Food Security, Education & Sports and Gender Based Violence. With the motto to “remember the one, one by one”, the conviction that every act of change matters is the philosophy that underpins the Kolisi Foundation. The foundation supports people living in under-resourced communities in South Africa by providing relief resources, facilitating capacity-building and horizontal learning exchanges, and mobilising and advocating for systemic change. With hearts willing to respond, hands ready to serve, and heads ready to learn, the Kolisi Foundation team is committed to the vision of changing stories of inequality.
